Upbit and an independent Korean outlet agree: this tax email isn't from the NTS

Upbit's own notice and Edaily's reporting both point to the same National Tax Service warning, issued the same day. Neither source says the NTS emails crypto users about taxes at all.
Risk boundary: This is a security warning, not investment advice. Verify any tax-related email through Hometax directly rather than clicking links in the email itself.
What happened
Upbit's own notice, registered August 14, 2026 at 19:55 KST, states: "최근 '가상자산 과세 사전 소명안내' 등의 제목으로 국세청을 사칭한 피싱 메일이 유포되고 있어 회원 여러분의 각별한 주의를 당부드립니다" (phishing emails impersonating the National Tax Service, titled things like "advance notice for crypto-asset tax explanation," are circulating, and Upbit is asking members for particular caution). It adds directly: "국세청은 가상자산 과세와 관련하여 이메일을 발송한 사실이 없으며" (the National Tax Service has not sent any emails related to crypto-asset taxation).
Edaily, reporting independently the same day at 19:55:41 KST, quoted the National Tax Service itself: "국세청은 '가상자산 과세 사전 소명안내' 등의 제목을 받은 이메일에 대해 링크 및 첨부 파일을 누르지 말라며 14일 이같이 밝혔다" (the NTS said on the 14th not to click links or attachments in emails received with titles like "advance notice for crypto-asset tax explanation"), and that "국세청에서 발신하는 이메일이나 문자는 국세청 홈택스에서 직접 확인할 수 있다" (emails or texts genuinely sent by the NTS can be confirmed directly through the NTS's own Hometax portal).
Why it matters
Upbit's notice and Edaily's report describe the same underlying National Tax Service warning from two independent angles: Upbit as a platform relaying a user-safety notice, Edaily as a news outlet reporting the government agency's statement directly. Both were registered within the same minute on August 14, which Cyrvola records as strong same-day corroboration rather than as two separate events.
The core confirmed fact is narrow and specific: the National Tax Service says it does not email crypto users about tax matters at all, and any email claiming otherwise should be verified through Hometax rather than trusted on its own.
What the market is watching
Neither source quantifies how many users received these phishing emails, how many clicked, or what financial harm, if any, resulted. Cyrvola does not estimate a scale for this campaign beyond what Upbit and Edaily state.
This dispatch makes no claim about any token's price or trading volume. It is a security-literacy record: verify tax-related crypto emails through Hometax directly, not through links inside the email itself.
